Lisbon rose five places in the ranking, ahead of London and New York

Lisbon has been praised by the international press and attracts more and more tourists. But this time it didn’t stand out as a destination to visit, but rather because it is one of the best cities in the world to live. The Portuguese capital is among the 50 cities with the best quality of life worldwide, occupying the 38th position in the "Quality of living" ranking of Mercer and positioning itself ahead of European references such as Paris, London, Milan and Barcelona.

Compared to 2017, Lisbon rose five places in the ranking, having surpassed Paris, London, Milan and Barcelona, which are in 39th, 41st, 42nd and 43rd, respectively. Madrid and New York also do not offer as much quality of life as Lisbon, occupying the 49th and 45th places.

In the first place in Mercer's ranking comes Vienna, the Austrian capital, which has held this position for nine consecutive years. According to the consultant, this city has a "high level of security, well-structured public transport as well as a wide variety of cultural and entertainment facilities."

European cities continue to be prominent in Mercer's ranking, with eight of the ten cities with the highest quality of life being located in Europe. The Asian continent, on the other hand, only appears in 25th place, represented by Singapore, and Latin America appears only in the 77th place, with Montevideo, capital of Uruguay. In the list of the ten worst cities to live in, none of them are located in Europe.
