Only in October the revenue from tourism increased 16.8%

Revenues generated from tourism grew by 16.8% in October, reaching 1.3 billion euros, according to data from the Bank of Portugal published on 21 December. These figures also show that the country has already surpassed the result achieved in the same period of 2015 by around one billion euros.

From January to October 2016, tourism generated Portugal the revenues of 11 billion euros, representing a growth of 10.3% compared to the same period of 2015. The data also shows that tourists spend more and more money within the country. In the first ten months of the year, tourists left 36 million euros daily in Portugal, adding four million euros of spending in comparison to the last year 2015.

Banco de Portugal highlights the expansion of tourist activity throughout the year, including October, which is normally a month of lowest activity, was the fourth best month of 2016. According to data already published by the National Statistical Institute, overnight stays in October surpassed the total results achieved in 2015, with the country gaining four million more nights this year than in 2015.
