The increase in overnight stays is due to the inflow of nationals, which increased by 12.5%, as well as of foreigners, which increased by 12.3%

In October, the tourist flow in Portugal did not slow down. On the contrary, this month both the quantity of guests and overnight stays increased by over 12% compared to September. The monthly growth rate is almost twice as high as in the previous month.

"The hotel industry registered 1.8 million guests and 5 million overnight stays in October 2016, corresponding to year-on-year increases of 12.7% and 12.4%, significantly exceeding those of the previous month (+ 8.4% and +7 ,3%), "says the National Statistics Institute. The increase in overnight stays is due to both the contribution of nationals, which increased by 12.5%, and of foreigners, which increased by 12.3%. Revenue grew 19.9%, however there has been a slight fall in the average stay in October, -0.3%.

With October boost, the number of tourists received this year rapidly approaches the record registered in 2015. The national hotel sector received 17.4 million guests with 48.9 million overnight stays last year. To date, in 2016, Portugal already accounts for 16.9 million guests, for a total of 48.1 million overnight stays.
