Portugal is the new cool country, claims Spanish newspaper

El Confidencial does not highlight beaches and restaurants, but rather science and innovation

The Spanish newspaper El Confidencial begins the article about Portugal with the phrase "the growing projection of neglected people". Here is the reason why the newspaper considers Portugal "the new cool country of Europe". However, unlike most publications praising the land of Camões, the newspaper did not highlight Portuguese beaches, hotels and restaurants, but rather the stability of the left-wing parliamentary agreement, the reduction of unemployment, the success in Euro 2016 and the Guterres victory in the race of the Secretary-general of the UN, among other topics, that are not related to the tourist attraction.

El Confidencial considers that "this capacity for dialogue and meeting underpins the foundations of Portugal's current course" and that the choice of António Guterres is "another platform to promote Portugal". Besides the political side, it highlights the sport, with the first continental football title for Portugal, the Euro 2016 and mentions national personalities, from Antonio Damasio, Joana Vasconcelos and Daniela Ruah to six Portuguese, that appear on the list of most cited scientists in the world.

The publication also notes that Portugal is also quite impressive in tourism, because in 2015 they beat up the record of foreign visitors and only in September, tourism earned 350 million euros for the Portuguese economy, according to the National Statistics Institute.
