Visit the Portuguese capital and learn about its beautiful palaces and historic buildings

More than half a million people 507,028 to be more precise, visited the Jeronimos Monastery in the first half of 2016, according to data from the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage (DGPC), representing an increase of 14.8% over the same period of 2015.

On the 2nd place is the Torre de Belém, with 326.849 million visits in the first six months of the year. Overall, the number of entries in museums, palaces and monuments run by DGPC has been increasing since 2010, following the trend of general tourism growth which is recorded in Portugal.

For those who enjoy royal palaces, Lisbon and the surrounding area offers a wide range of buildings, which are worth visiting. Meet the Palacio da Ajuda in Belem, the Palace of Queluz, in Queluz, Pena Palace in Sintra, or the Palace of Monserrate, also in Sintra. They have an authentic scenery from fairy-tales.
