SPANISH NEWSPAPER ABC GIVES YOU 10 REASONS TO VISIT LISBON

After the US magazine Forbes listed the wonders of the Portuguese capital, it was the turn of the Spanish newspaper ABC to list the reasons to visit Lisbon.

 

These are the main points that the newspaper highlighted:

 

 

1. Monuments

 

Among the architectural buildings of Lisbon, the paper highlights the Tower of Belém and the Monastery of Jeronimos, both Manueline style monuments and UNESCO Heritage since 1983. It is also recommended to visit the National Museum of Ancient Art, the Museu dos Coches, the National Tile Museum (Museu Nacional do Azulejo) and the Museum of Fado (Museu do Fado).

 

 

2. Walks through the city

 

The Spanish daily newspaper suggests such routes in Lisbon to visit the most important sights such as the neighbourhood of Chiado and Cais do Sodre, the route Estrela-Prazeres-Alcântara-Docas or Mouraria-Castelo-Alfama.

 

 

3. Parks

 

ABC says that "Lisbon has the best parks and natural areas." These highlights the Arrabida Natural Park and Parque Natural de Sintra-Cascais.

 

 

4. Nature reserve of the Tagus estuary

 

The largest estuary in Western Europe deserves the highlight by the Spanish newspaper, especially for its migratory birds, fish and shellfish.

 

 

5. Shopping

 

ABC highlights four locations for shopping in Lisbon: the Baixa district, for its ancient and traditional shops, Chiado - the large supply of various pieces, the Avenida da Liberdade containing the best international brands, and Bairro Alto, to have alternative style shops.

 

 

6. Praias

 

A região de Lisboa conta com muitas e boas praias. O ABC refere a linha de Cascais, mais especificamente a praia do Guincho e da Duquesa e, também, as praias da Costa da Caparica.

 

 

7. Night life

 

For the wide range of clubs, bars and pubs in Lisbon, ABC refers at the first place to Bairro Alto and also Chiado, Bica, Príncipe Real, followed by the Avenida 24 de Julho and Santos.

 

 

8. Gastronomy

 

The great Portuguese food did not go unnoticed by the Spanish newspaper, which referrs to the wine, fish (not just cod) and shellfish as well as the convent confectionery as having "a fundamental importance  foodwise in Lisbon." Dishes out pork meat to the alentejana, portuguese beans caldo verde, octopus rice and stew fish.

 

 

9. Plans with family

 

According to the ABC newspaper, Lisbon has plans to enjoy by the entire family from smaller ones to the bigger ones. Consider the ride in the tram 28 to the Castelo de São Jorge something that "the little ones will never forget." For younger it is also advisable to visit the interpretation center: Lisbon Story Centre located in the Commerce Square, and the Oceanarium which is located in Parque das Nações.

 

 

10. Viewpoints

Lisbon, known as the city of seven hills has numerous sights from which one can overview the city, explains the Spanish newspaper. Regards as important Mirador de São Pedro de Alcântara, São Pedro de Alcântara Garden, in Bairro Alto, the romantic viewpoint of Santa Luzia and viewpoint of Graca.
