If you have always dreamed of riding a horse on the beach it’s time to give Cavalos na Areia a call

 

Have you ever pictured yourself riding a horse on a paradise beach? Well, imagine no more. Cavalos na Areia gives you the opportunity to make this dream come true on the Comporta sand stretches. There are 200 kilometers of virgin unspoiled beach in total just an hour away from Lisbon.

An experience that belongs in the movies, to ride a horse on a white sand beach with the blue sea as background is actually a really easy one to have.

 

It is difficult to think of a more romantic program that this one offered by Cavalos na Areia.

 

The horse rides happen at Herdade da Comporta, a 12 500 hectare property in Coastal Alentejo, right between Grândola and Alcácer do Sal. The rides are an hour and a half long, which is more than enough to take it all in and cost 50€.

 

 

To do this amazing activity you only need to make a reservation at least 48 hours in advance. However, due to the incredibly high demand, we advise calling even earlier.

 

The company has ten horses at its disposal. They’re all very docile and patient and were all trained by José Ribeira, a qualified instructor whose mission is to provide the best experience possible to those who seek him. José has a vast experience in horse handling and training, having been a disciple of the famous mestre Guilherme Borba. He’s participated in show jumping, raises, and races, having also taught for some time.

 

In case horseback riding isn’t your cup of tea, Cavalos na Areia offers alternative ways of exploring Comporta. You can opt for renting one of the 20 bikes that are equipped with special sand-tires. The prices range from 10€ for half a day to 15€ for a full one. Another option is to go kayaking down the canal that takes the water to the rice fields. The price range is the same as for the bike rentals.
