Comporta is a village located on the Tróia Peninsula, famous for its long stretch of white sand and crystalline waters between the dunes and an immense pine forest. The New York Times called it the “anti-Algarve, an hour from Lisbon” for being less touristy and better kept. Comporta is a protected nature reserve in what used to be a fishermen’s village. This genuine region invites you to stay and enjoy the simple things in life.
This tranquil haven is part of the Alcácer do Sal municipality, 120 kilometers south of Lisbon. The beach sits between the Sado estuary to the north and the Tróia Peninsula to the west. It is a purposefully underdeveloped region, which has attracted many top personalities, the likes of Madonna, Christian Louboutin, Philippe Starck and the Monegasque Princely Family. Praia da Comporta is one of the most sought-after beaches on the Alentejo coast and its natural beauty easily accounts for that fact.
It isn’t easy to list all Comporta has to offer. The beach is nothing short of those we are used to seeing in the movies, with its white sand and blue sea, the rice fields are part of this region’s identity and because of them, delicious dishes are made in the local restaurants.
