Algarve is awaiting almost full occupancy in the New Year's Eve

Algarve consolidates itself as a new year destination

The Algarve Tourism has expectations to reach nearly 100% hotel occupancy in the New Year´s eve period, which is traditionally stronger than the Christmas and has programs for all audiences and budgets. Desidério Silva, the president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) told the Lusa agency that the perception he has got from his contact with hoteliers is that the occupation will be close to the maximum capacity.

"We feel that at the end of the year, particularly during the week of New Year's Eve, the Algarve will have an occupancy rate close to 100%, especially on days 28-31 of December," said the president of RTA, noting that demand is very strong and there are already several programs framed in the region.

Desidério Silva states that "the region is consolidated as a year-end destination" and has a good offer, in terms of catering, street shows, as well as several cities and hotels with special programs. He adds that the Algarve offers its visitors a "diversified choice for various prices".

Throughout the year the numbers were always giving signs of overcoming the previous year numbers and by November 2016, all of them exceeded 2015. December also highlights the same trend and the end of the year and reconfirms that "it was an excellent year for the region." The president of the hotel association of the Algarve, Elidérico Viegas, believes that this year's trend is lower region demand by domestic tourists, but a rise in foreign visitors.
