PORTUGUESE "BOOKING" ENTERS 2017 WITH COMPETITIVE PRICES
The main objective of the new platform is - for the Portuguese hotel industry to control the distribution and its future
The Association of Hospitality of Portugal will create an aggregation platform, similar to Booking.com, but only for Portuguese hotels and with much lower commissions, charged by the international platforms. The investment is already guaranteed and the public should have access to the platform by the end of 2017.
The platform, which does not yet have a definite name, will redirect tourists to the hotels' own websites, and that is where reservations will be made. This means that hotels will make their own sales and will be forced to own websites, which is not the case with many of the Portuguese hotels.
70% of the funding for this platform is already guaranteed and will be provided by the System of Incentives for Collective Action, in the program - Compete. The aim is for the hotel to be able to offer a low-cost promotion platform, but not to compete with Booking.
