Bridge 25 de Abril

Bridge 25 de Abril: the link between the two river banks of the Tagus

The 25 de Abril Bridge is compared to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco

The 25th of April Bridge was inaugurated in 1966 with the name of Salazar Bridge, has been renamed after the revolution of 1974. It took four years for the two banks of the Tagus river to come together, forever changing the relations between each other.

Altogether there are 2.3 kilometers of red colored metal to cut the horizon, though which approximately 150,000 vehicles pass per day and 157 trains, carrying an average of 85,000 people every day. Many compare it to the Golden Gate of San Francisco and the truth is that this is not happening by chance, as both were built by the same US company, the United States Steel Export Company.

The bridge allows everyone to visit the beaches of Costa da Caparica and Arrábida. But if time is short to explore the south bank of the Tagus, you can always take pictures of the beautiful bridge with the view of the Christ the King.

To get a nice view of the bridge April 25 go to the  Docas de Santo Amaro, which include a marina and several restaurants and allow you to observe the nearest monument. If you want to watch this construction from the top - the best place to do this is from the monument Cristo Rei. In the Parque Florestal de Monsanto or observation decks Santo Amaro and  Necessidades, the views of this bridge are also magnificent.
