Five hundred marine species inhabit the Oceanarium of Lisbon
The Lisbon Oceanarium is the most popular attraction of Lisbon, getting about a million annual visits
It was opened for the World Expo 1998 and is located in the Park of Nations, containing about eight thousand animals and plants. Altogether there are more than five hundred species living in seven million liters of salt water.
The visit to the Oceanarium begins with the huge central water tank, the most impressive of all, a colossus of five thousand cubic meters that can be seen along the entire route. In this gigantic aquarium seven meters high living manta ray, sharks, tuna fish and moon fish. Around him are other smaller aquariums, in which recreates the atmosphere of different natural environments and oceans.
Between sea otters, sharks, penguins and coral reefs, visitors to the Oceanarium have enough entertainment for hours. It is considered as the best aquarium in Europe, also has an educational componentby raising awareness of the younger of the importance of preservation of marine resources.
