The Monsanto Forest Park occupies 1/8 of the total area of Lisbon
Monsanto Forest Park is the largest urban forest park in Europe and is considered to be the lungs of Lisbon. The park occupies 900 hectares in total, 1/8 of the total area of the city, and offers great potential for leisure, in addition to providing ample views of the city and the Tagus. This park is a green spot with plants and a variety of animals, in which you can even find squirrels - the animals that were extinct in the country.
Located in the heart of the city, in the Forest Park of Monsanto you can do various things. There are several paths for mountain biking, playgrounds, football and basketball courts, a skate park and several picnic areas where you can take you family for a picnic.
In this park you will find various equipment, which create favorable conditions for active recreation, such as the Parque Recreativo do Alto da Serafina, Parque Recreativo do Alvito, Parque Recreativo dos Moinhos de Santana, Mata de São Domingos de Benfica, Clube Municipal de Ténis de Lisboa, Circuitos de Manutenção, Circuito de Manutenção for elderly, Centro de Atividades, Parques de Merendas, Miradouros, Parque de Campismo and various restaurants.
In the 2000s, the entire Monsanto area, from the Parque do Calhau, passing by to the Anfiteatro Keil do Amaral, was revitalized, returning that natural space and leisure area to the people of Lisbon once again.
